Sony has announced on their PlayStation Blog a system software update to the PlayStation 4 that can disable High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). Eliminating an elaborate pass-through to capture video will appeal to gamers who enjoy sharing their content with others. Now, record gameplay directly from PS4 with the upgraded firmware 1.7 using any AVerMedia HDMI capture devices, including AVerMedia’s ExtremeCap U3, Live Gamer Portable (LGP), LGP Lite, Game Capture HD II, Live Gamer HD, Live Gamer HD Lite, and the upcoming EzRecorder 130.
With PS4, the HDCP toggle is all or nothing: once HDCP is turned off, then that feature applies for all apps on the console. Unlike the component cables previously required, gamers can record directly off any of the four AVerMedia capture devices. The 1.7 update that includes the HDCP off feature landed globally on April 30, 2014.
Disabling HDCP empowers gamers to showcase a staggering range of new footage via the AVerMedia capture devices. In particular, this change benefits YouTube gamers and online audiences, whose numbers may likely grow with the surge of new materials. Using the HDMI or component inputs, save content directly onto an SD card PC-free via LGP or onto a PC via LGP Lite. For gamers with USB 3.0 ports, use ExtremeCap U3 to record and stream 1080p 60fps gameplay. Alternatively, use Game Capture HD II to preserve gameplay in pristine HD quality before editing and sharing directly to YouTube.
PS4’s disabling option for HDCP – coupled with AVerMedia’s leading capture devices: ExtremeCap U3, Live Gamer Portable (LGP), LGP Lite, Game Capture HD II, Live Gamer HD, Live Gamer HD Lite, and the upcoming EzRecorder 130. – are bound to add vitality, depth, and enhanced sharing to the gaming experience.
